Jim Pruitt became a Christian in 1971 at the age of 13. Raised as a Southern Baptist and trained in evangelism by Campus Crusade for Christ, he was swept up in the last vestiges of the “Jesus Movement.” He preached his first sermon at the age of 14 while visiting a small church in Woodbine, Georgia (I bet the pastor never asked another young person if they wanted to preach!) and also taught a small bible study for a time at his high school. At about the same time, he took up bass guitar and played in several Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) bands in the late 70s and 80s. In 1978 he was first exposed to Calvary Chapel when he played there with a Christian band while touring in southern California. However, he fell away from the faith in his 20s and spent many years as an agnostic until God mercifully restored him. With his renewed faith, came a desire to serve God through music and he once again began to play bass with different local Christian bands and praise teams. During this time, he began to feel God’s calling for him to teach and preach. He began to write and posted what God had laid on his heart on the internet. He self-published two books and God compelled him to overcome his fears of public speaking and begin witnessing and street preaching. He became involved with Calvary Chapel Cobb and was blessed by Pastor Paul’s teaching and leadership. Under his guidance, Jim began to teach an evangelism course and occasionally filled in for him. In 2009, Calvary Fayette (which had started as a fellowship of Calvary Chapel McDonough) came under Calvary Chapel Cobb’s wing. And in late 2009 after much prayer and soul-searching (and almost moving to Seattle), God called him to be the pastor here at Calvary Fayette.

Jim has two grown sons (Trae & George) who he is very proud of and an incredibly understanding and patient wife (Jean).
